Maureen is what we call an oxymoron. She`s analytical, methodical, organized and an artist. Maureen`s been an Efficiency Expert and Crisis worker. She was an Art Director for a large textile company that printed and sold 81 of her designs. She was an English Teachers assistant for foreign-born students and an Arts and Crafts instructor for seniors. She`s a licensed Cosmetologist and traveling beautician for paraplegics and homebound in her area. Maureen has one daughter and three sons and several grandchildren that are an important part of her creative life. Her poetry made friends and family laugh and cry -- sometimes at the same time. "Put them in a book," they told her, but going to a publisher who offered so little of what Maureen wanted for a lot of money made her more determined to publish her books herself, with some help (Press Release from PRWeb). Maureen did the writing, designing, printing, binding and distribution of her books on her own. Maureen, being born in the Bronx, did not develop her love of photography till she and her husband moved to a log home in upstate New York. Twenty-two years later, her husband was called to active duty and sent overseas. Being surrounded by a state forest, a beautiful garden and being alone with their animals, was a natural turn of events that made her pick up a camera. Being an artisan helped her to create exciting close-ups of flora and fauna that started her writing to emphasize her photography. This was just another step in the evolution of her artistic life, and now, with her husband safely home and retired from the military, she has a calm in which to expand on her artistic talents. In 1992, Maureen won the Iliad Literary Award for Recognition of Literary Excellence from The National Authors Registry. She won the Editors Choice Award for Outstanding Achievement in Poetry, in 1993, by The National Library of Poetry. In 1993, Wonder Digital Press published three of her short stories, for Apple computer. The Amherst Society published Maureen’s poetry in, the American Poetry Annual, in 1994. In 1995, The Presidents` Award for Literary Excellence for, "The Article." She won the Editors Choice Award in 2005 for `Spring`. Maureen has another book due to come out soon that is filled with delightful Poetry (with a twist) and several photographs called, "Words to take your breath away."
